Present: Evelyn Spurgin (president), Mike Harris (vice president), Ellen Cotts (treasurer), Dave Hunter (secretary), Dawn Star Borchelt, Janet Eisenhauer, Mel Harkrader-Pine, Anne Herndon, Linda Olson Peebles (UUA trustee)

Absent: David Chandler, Howard Dana, Marilyn Dyson, Paula Majorana, Paul Riche, Bill Stoup

Also Present: Richard Speck (district executive), Tracey Robinson-Harris (deputy director, department for congregational, district, and extension services), Virginia Jerocho-Ernst (DRE, UU Congregation of Somerset Hills NJ)

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:21 p.m.

 

1. DE Contract.  Although his contract as acting district executive does not expire until August 31, 2001, it was agreed that Richard Speck would start under the new contract as district executive on July 1, 2001.

 

2. CampUUs Search Committee.  The CampUUs search committee was authorized to make the final selection; they will not need to return to the board for final approval.

 

3. Congratulations.  The congratulations of the board were extended to Anne Herndon (called by her extension congregation, Southern Maryland) and Linda Olson Peebles (called to be MRE by Arlington).

 

4. Acting District Lifespan Religious Education Consultant.  Following an interview and deliberation, the board asked Virginia Jerocho-Ernst to be our acting district lifespan religious education consultant, and Virginia accepted.  Her official starting date will be August 15, 2001, with informal transition arrangements that were discussed.  It was noted that Virginia will be ordained by the UU congregation of Somerset Hills on September 16, 2001, at 5 p.m., at the Morristown NJ fellowship, and that the start-up weekend for both Virginia and Richard will be October 5-6.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
