RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES

Unitarian Universalists of Asbury (Gaithersburg, MD)

The nearly 50 UUs who live at Asbury Methodist Village meet monthly from September through May.  Most are or were from Cedar Lane UU Church, River Road UU Congregation or the UU Church of Rockville.  Programs include music and presentations by clergy from these churches and other outstanding speakers.  Interns are also included to provide them with an experience with older adults in a retirement community.

Greenspring Village Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Fellowship is a newly formed group of Unitarian Universalists living in Greenspring Village, and Erickson Retirement Community in Springfield, VA with over 2,000 residents.  The group meets bimonthly for a program and dinner together.  Most members are members of area Unitarian Universalist congregations including Mt. Vernon, Arlington, Accotink and Fairfax.

UUs of Leisure World, MD

UUCLW is one of about 90 interest groups at Leisure World of Maryland, an adult community of about 8,500 residents over 55 years old located in Silver Spring – a Washington, DC suburb.  We meet regularly, except in summer, for socializing and a speaker, and are very active in social action projects involving all faith groups represented at Leisure World.  For further information, contact:

Unitarian Universalists at Riderwood

The Unitarian Universalists at Riderwood is composed of residents living at Riderwood in Silver Spring, MD.  They function through a Steering Committee of nine elected residents.  The UUs at Riderwood employ a part time chaplain for counseling and occasional programs.  The Chaplain coordinates with the UUs’ long-standing We Care program.  The UUs meet monthly for a program or social activity as well as meeting informally once or twice a month for dinners.  There are several study groups that meet periodically, such as the Seekers of Justice that meet weekly.  For further information, contact:

Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council

“The mission of the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council is to foster and support partner relationships between North American congregations and congregations, schools, and agencies in all other countries where partnering is sought and welcomed.  At present, active partnerships exist between North American UU congregations and the Czech Republic, Hungary, India, the Philippines, Poland, and Romania.”

Volunteer “networkers” are available to facilitate and advise on the partnership process and to advise existing partners on keeping their partnerships vital.  Two networkers currently reside in the JPD and are available by telephone and email to assist current and potential partners.  They are:

Unitarian Universalist Retired Ministers and Partners Association

UURMAPA members are a resource of knowledge, experience and leadership to serve the district.  The organization enhances the well-being of retired Unitarian Universalist ministers and their surviving partners, and provides activities and programs for their benefit.

Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

Grounded in UU principles, the UUSC is a voluntary, nonsectarian, membership organization at the forefront of the national and international human rights movement.  Its members, supporters and staff work to advance justice in the United States and around the world, providing technical assistance and grants to developing local grassroots organizations, advocating for human rights worldwide, creating new generations of social justice advocates through its Justworks workcamps program in the U.S., and providing action alerts to mobilize congregations for public policy advocacy.  Information about programs, membership, speaking engagements, Guest at Your Table program, and congregational awards is available from regional coordinators or local congregational representatives.  Contact:
