Dana White has recently unveiled his timeline for initiating the matchmaking process for the highly anticipated UFC White House event. This historic occasion is set to unfold on the south lawn of the White House in June, with an expected audience of around 5,000 attendees. The excitement surrounding this unique event has been building for months, as nearly every fighter on the UFC roster has expressed a desire to compete. However, actual fight arrangements had yet to commence due to ongoing logistical planning and other events that needed to be finalized first.
In a recent conversation with Stephen A. Smith on his podcast, White shared his plans: "I have Zuffa Boxing on the 23rd of this month, the 24th is UFC, and as soon as those two fights are over, I start working on the White House fight." This statement signals that the matchmaking for the White House card is just around the corner.
There has been much speculation regarding which fighters might participate in this landmark event. Notably, Jon Anik, the lead commentator for the UFC, suggested that the card could include several championship bouts, which would certainly heighten the stakes and excitement.
One fighter who has prominently positioned himself for a return is Conor McGregor. After suffering a severe leg injury during his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021, McGregor appears determined to make his comeback at the White House event. He has re-entered the UFC's anti-doping program and commenced his training camp while stepping back from his other business ventures, including his role as co-owner and public face of BKFC. Although McGregor hopes to face Michael Chandler at this event, it's important to note that the UFC has yet to officially confirm either fighter’s participation in the card.
Currently, the only two undisputed champions in the UFC with scheduled fights are Kayla Harrison, who will defend her bantamweight title against Amanda Nunes at UFC 324, and Alexander Volkanovski, who is set to rematch Diego Lopes for the featherweight title at UFC 325. Additionally, there are two interim title bouts announced: Justin Gaethje facing Paddy Pimblett for the lightweight title and Max Holloway defending his 'BMF' belt against Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March. This opens up a significant opportunity for the UFC to feature multiple title fights at the White House.
As anticipation builds, it's worth noting that this unique event is made possible largely due to President Donald Trump's enthusiasm for the UFC, mirroring how previous presidents have supported other sports. White remarked, "When you think about sports, [George] Bush was a big baseball fan. [Barack] Obama [loves] NBA. Trump is a UFC fan."
