Suffolk Dad's MND Battle: Facing the Future with Hope (2026)

Imagine a life brimming with health and activity, suddenly facing an uncertain future. This is the reality for 39-year-old Suffolk dad, Ryan Horsfall, after receiving a devastating motor neurone disease (MND) diagnosis.

Ryan, a fit and healthy plumber, noticed a subtle ripple in his bicep, followed by a loss of mobility in his arm. He and his wife, Kimberly, were focused on raising their three young children and creating lasting memories. But just before Christmas, doctors confirmed his arm issues were due to MND, a progressive condition causing muscle weakness with no known cure.

Ryan's journey began in October when he first experienced trouble with his left hand. "I just couldn't get it to do what I wanted it to do," he explained. Initially dismissing it, the issue persisted. After various tests, the diagnosis of MND was confirmed, leaving Kimberly heartbroken. She shared the immense difficulty of witnessing her husband's devastation, feeling helpless in the face of the disease.

The couple, parents to children aged three, six, and eight, have chosen to approach the situation with positivity, explaining to their children that they now understand "what's wrong with daddy." Kimberly acknowledges the challenges ahead, emphasizing their focus on living in the present and adapting to changes.

Ryan, despite the unknown future and the rapid loss of movement in his arm, is determined to remain positive and continue working as long as possible. "I won't let it define me," he asserts, vowing not to hide from the reality of his condition.

But here's where it gets controversial...

Friends and colleagues have rallied around Ryan and his family, launching a fundraiser that has already raised over £57,000.

And this is the part most people miss...

Other friends and colleagues are organizing fundraising events to support the MND Association.

Michael King, a colleague from Plumbase, is organizing a sponsored skydive, highlighting the close-knit community's support for Ryan and his family. Ash Revett, another friend, expressed his shock at the diagnosis, emphasizing the difficulty of witnessing Ryan's struggles.
